Karpaz guide: Golden Beach, wild donkeys and untouched bays
08 October 2026
The Karpaz peninsula is the most natural and peaceful corner of North Cyprus. Long roads, olive groves and small villages lead you all the way to the tip of the island.
Golden Beach
The symbol of the peninsula, Golden Beach (Altın Kum) is often listed among the island's most beautiful beaches thanks to its kilometres of fine sand and clear water. In summer, respect the sea turtle nesting areas: stay out of marked zones and avoid using lights on the beach at night.
Karpaz donkeys
Donkeys roaming freely are the peninsula's best-loved residents. Watch them from a distance and drive slowly.
Apostolos Andreas Monastery
Near the tip of the peninsula, the monastery is one of the most visited historic sites in the area. The cape view at the end of the road is also worth the trip.
Getting around
- The drive is long — keep your tank full and bring water and snacks.
- Boat tours are a lovely way to see the bays from the sea.
- If you stay overnight, village houses and small guesthouses offer a quiet experience.
