A day in Kyrenia: harbour, castle and sunset

Kyrenia (Girne) is a small yet lively harbour town tucked between the Kyrenia Mountains and the Mediterranean. Here is the order we suggest for a full day.
Morning: the old harbour
Start your day with a coffee among the boats in the horseshoe-shaped old harbour. Morning hours also give the best light for photos.
Midday: Kyrenia Castle
At the eastern end of the harbour, Kyrenia Castle carries traces of many periods. Inside, the Shipwreck Museum displays the remains of an ancient merchant ship.
Afternoon: Bellapais
A short drive from Kyrenia, Bellapais village is famous for its Gothic abbey and views. The abbey hosts concerts and festivals in summer — check the calendar so you don't miss them.
Evening: sunset and music
End the day with a sunset boat trip or at one of the live music venues by the harbour. Summer evenings also bring harbour concerts and beach parties.
